2024-05-18: 2024 WS-DL Research Expo
On April 26, 2024, we held our fourth annual WS-DL Research Expo. We continued the same format as the prior years (2023, 2022 & 2021), with one student from each WS-DL professor giving a short overview of their research. Links to all the materials (slides, papers, software, data) are gathered in the GitHub repo, but here are the links for the students and their presentations:
- Jim Ecker: ALICE — AI Leveraged Information Capture and Exploration
- Mohan Krishna: Detecting Deceptive Dark-PatternWeb Advertisements for Blind Screen-Reader Users
- Xin Wei: Visual Descriptor Extraction from Patent Figure Captions: A Case Study of Data Efficiency Between BiLSTM and Transformer
- Tarannum Zaki: Web Archives for Verifying Attribution in Twitter Screenshots
- Yasasi Abeysinghe: Advanced Gaze Analytics for Distributed Eye Tracking
We were fortunate enough to welcome back some of our alumni, including: Martin Klein (PhD, 2011), Shawn Jones (PhD, 2021), Mat Kelly (PhD, 2019), Alexander Nwala (PhD, 2020), and Sawood Alam (PhD, 2020). We really appreciate the ongoing relationship we have with our alumni, and were especially happy that so many of them took time out from being at WAC 2024 in France (six hours ahead of EDT!) to join us.
If you were unable to attend, we recorded the students' presentations and include them below, as well as some of the tweets about the expo.
