DAAD RISE Professional scholarship holders at RISE Professional conference in Kassel, Germany This summer, I had the privilege of being selected for the RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) Professional program organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) . During the RISE Professional research internship, I worked at  Petanux GmbH in Bonn, Germany, under the supervision of Prof. Mahdi Bohlouli . DAAD RISE has two programs that offer summer research internships in Germany to students from the North America, Great Britain, and Ireland. During my senior year as a Ph.D. candidate at Old Dominion University (ODU) , I accepted an internship opportunity with the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) / U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the Division of Quality Intelligence III under the Office of Pharmaceutical Quality (OPQ) in Silver Spring, Maryland. I joined the FDA as a summer fellow through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) . This is my third remote internship opportunity after two consecutive internships with Los Alamos National Laboratory and Bhirle Applied Research Inc . Although the internship was remote, I was called in for two days to provide a fingerprint, collect my FDA badge, and meet with my supervisor on-site. I was assigned to one of the regulatory projects to enhance a site selection model algorithm that leverages a machine learning technique for comprehensive quality surveillance. I was supervised by John Wan (Supervisory Operations Research Analyst) and L...

2023-12-27: Summer Research Internship at ISG - Information Services Group, Inc.

Image
As I consider my time as an ISG GovernX summer 2023 research intern, although it was based in Stamford, Connecticut, USA, I worked remotely from Virginia. I am swept away into a domain where contract management, innovation, and the application of cutting-edge technologies intersect with the application of coding expertise. Engaging in the development of a Clause Recommendation System during my internship not only enhanced my technical skills but also expanded my understanding of reality-based implementations about natural language processing and data analysis. My primary objectives were: to assist the team with my coding expertise and convert client requirements into coding tasks. By testing various methodologies and applying my solutions to resolve tangible challenges, I developed professionally as a programmer and demonstrated the efficacy of my contributions to the group. One key project I worked on was the Clause Recommendation System. I played a role in building its essential par...

This summer (summer of 2022), we (Himarsha Jayanetti, Gavindya Jayawardena, and Yasith Jayawardana) got the opportunity to intern at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under the Graduate Research Assistant Program . Himarsha and Yasith worked as a part of the Library's Research and Prototyping Team  (Proto Team) under the supervision of Drs. Martin Klein and Shawn M. Jones . Gavindya was supervised by Brian Cain on the Institutional Scientific Content (ISC) Team. Each of us was responsible for one of the three main components that make up the "PDFServer". What is the PDFServer? PDFServer is a prototype to support LANL's Review and Approval System for Scientific and Technical Information (RASSTI) , which is the starting point for collecting LANL’s documented scientific output and it provides workflows for authors and reviewers. The overall architecture of the PDFServer is displayed in Figure 1. We selected Laravel 9.11 , which is a PHP web application framewo...
