Web Science and Digital Libraries Research Group

As researchers, we acquire new developments in our fields through reading scientific literature. Even though we assume the reading and cognitive behaviors to be stochastic, recent studies reveal otherwise. Over the recent periods, we ( NirdsLab , WS-DL ) have been studying these patterns of researchers using eye-tracking and published a series of studies highlighting our findings. This blog will summarize our studies, highlighting our discoveries, realizations, and future directions.   For the discussion, we consider three peer-reviewed poster publications.   The I nternational Workshop on Mining Scientific Publications (WOSP) started in 2012. The main theme is to use Natural Language Processing (NLP) and text mining tools to aid knowledge creation and improve the process by which the research is done. This year, due to the unprecedented pandemic by COVID-19, the entire workshop is moved online on August 5th, right after JCDL 2020. The workshop this year was organized by CORE , The Open University , UK, in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) , Tennessee, US. This year, the Web Archiving and Digital Libraries 2020 Workshop ( #WADL2020 ) was held on August 5, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the workshop was held virtually. As it had been in previous years, it was organized by  Dr. Zhiwu Xie , Dr. Martin Klein , and Dr. Edward A. 20th ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Libraries Libraries (JCDL 2020) was hosted virtually (due to the COVID-19 pandemic ) jointly by the School of Information Management at Wuhan University and the School of Public Administration at Northwest University , between August 1 - 5, 2020 in Wuhan, Hubei, China. Similar to last year's conference, we (members of WSDL ) attended paper sessions, workshops (Web Archiving and Digital Libraries), and tutorials, where researchers from multiple disciplines presented their work via Zoom. The theme of this year's conference was "Speedier Innovation, Sustainable Development, Societal Transformation".
