Amidst the uncertainties of COVID-19, I got the opportunity to work as a Summer Research Intern at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) . This was my first internship as a PhD student in the US, and I'm really grateful for this opportunity. Due to the ongoing pandemic, I was offered to work remotely. I was assigned to the Research and Prototyping (Proto) Team of the LANL Research Library , under the supervision of Dr. Martin Klein - an alumnus of the WSDL group of ODU. 2021-08-26: ODU Teacher Professional Development Workshop

The ODU Teacher Professional Development Workshop was a 3-day program conducted from August 2 th - August 4 th at the Open Research Lab (OR Lab) of the E&CS Building of ODU. It was funded by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium , and was conducted by Dr. Sampath Jayarathna in collaboration with Dr. Stacie Ringleb and Dr. Robert Ash at ODU. The goal of this workshop was to allow secondary-school teachers in the Hampton roads area to learn a) coding in Python, b) basics of the engineering design process, and c) programming with drones (specifically, DJI Tello ). Teachers from 4 schools in Norfolk ( Academy for Discovery , Blair Middle School , Crossroads School , Lake Taylor School , and Norview High School ), 3 schools in Virginia Beach ( Bayside High School , Landstown High School , and Old Donation School ), and 2 schools in Chesapeake ( Grassfield High Sc

2021-08-21: IMLS Laura Bush Award -- A Graduate Certificate in Web Archiving

Our certificate and capstone course will be at the intersection of Computer Science, Library and Information Studies, and Cybersecurity. We are happy to have received a 2021 IMLS Laura Bush planning grant award to establish a graduate certificate in web archiving at ODU.  The project and resulting certificate program is a joint effort between the Web Science and Digital Libraries Research Group ( Nelson , Weigle ), the School of Cybersecurity (Wu), Library and Information Studies ( Kimmel ), and the ODU Libraries ( Ritchie ).   The deliverables for this 12 month project will include: 1) an environmental scan documenting the need of industry, university, and government organizations for employees with experience in web archiving, 2) materials for a graduate-level course in the technology, theory, and ethics of web archiving, and 3) a lessons learned report of our experiences working in a multidisciplinary team to deliver graduate
